ISFJ – Plan Ahead?

Content Warning: Swear word in the graphic below. I saw this on a reddit thread and it was very appropriate for this post.

August usually brings a month of “back to school” sermons for those preparing for big changes in September. Majority of our congregations have not gone back to school in many years. Yet, I know September brings changes in all of our lives. This month, I am preaching on all the things that can help us when those changes happen. My first sermon in the series: “Plan Ahead.”

It is from an interesting passage in Luke 14 that comes right before Jesus talks about salt. Luke 14:28-30 is a part of the passage on the cost of discipleship. Jesus uses an example of a building not finishing his project and becoming a laughing stock of the people. He speaks about it requiring planning, commitment, and sacrafice.

Having an active faith requires planning, commitment and sacrifice. Having a heart that is focused on Jesus Christ requires a daily, maybe even moment by moment, check in with oneself so that we can be ready to make course corrections in our lives. Are we perfect at this? By no means – look at the MBTI stuff above. Each one of us is so unique – that planning ahead is a skill that matches our personalities. Personally, I am an ISFJ – and with not having children – the thoughts for “legacies” crosses my mind a lot.

In planning ahead for my relationship with Jesus Christ, I feel like I do what I have to do to ensure that legacy. I practice my faith daily. I led by example so that others will see Jesus in me. I have every confidence in my future as a one who longs to see the kingdom of God someday. I commit to regularly working towards that here in this sacred space as well.

Where do you fall in the MBTI? Never had it done, send me a message. Ill foward you my favorite free site to learn with.
